Die spraying systems automatically apply release agent to the open die of a hot chamber die casting machine. Depending on their configuration, they can also blow out residues, cool selected tooling areas and lubricate moving die components.

FISS Machines offers used pneumatic and motor-driven die spraying systems with spray tools, release-agent tanks, control systems and additional peripheral equipment. Where no suitable used system is available, factory-new equipment may also be sourced depending on the project.

Every movement matters within the short hot chamber casting cycle. The spraying unit must reach the die safely, complete the defined spraying programme and clear the tooling area again in time.

Die spraying is not an additional downstream process. Its movement takes place directly between casting extraction and reclosing of the die and must therefore be coordinated precisely with the machine and automation.

Why hot chamber die spraying requires a dedicated configuration

Hot chamber die casting machines frequently produce small to medium-sized castings with short cycle times. The die spraying system must therefore operate compactly, quickly and reliably without unnecessarily extending the machine cycle.

Cycle time Limited time inside the open tooling area
Entry, blowing, spraying, final blowing and retraction must all take place within a limited time window. Stroke, speed and spraying duration should therefore be assessed together.
Die size Compact dies and targeted positions
Depending on the component and die, a simple stroke movement may be sufficient. With several cavities, slides or differently stressed areas, additional positions and separately controlled nozzle circuits become relevant.
Alloy Coordinate the process conditions correctly
Release agent, spraying quantity, air pressure and cooling effect must match the alloy being processed, the die temperature and the required casting surface.

Four tracks determine the spraying result

The result is not created by the nozzle alone. Media supply, air, movement sequence and spray tool must operate as one connected system.

Track 01 Release Agent
Defined liquid application Mixture, delivery pressure, valve timing and nozzle cross-section influence the applied quantity.
Track 02 Air
Atomise and blow out Atomising air shapes the spray pattern. Separate blow air removes moisture and loose residues.
Track 03 Movement
Stroke and position Entry path, spraying position, speed and parking position must match the machine.
Track 04 Tooling
Nozzles matched to the die Spray tool, distributor, valves and nozzles are adapted to the cavities and die contour.

Pneumatic or motor-driven?

Both configurations can be used in hot chamber die casting. The suitable solution depends on the required freedom of movement, positioning capability, cycle time and existing machine control system.

Pneumatic die spraying systems are suitable for simple, repeatable stroke movements. They can be particularly useful for retrofitting compact hot chamber die casting machines.

The scope of supply can vary considerably. Before purchase, it should be clarified exactly which mechanical, electrical and media-carrying components are included.

Tooling
Spray tool Nozzle rail, distributor, valves, masking and tool mounting. The existing spray tool may not match the new die.

Depending on their size and the installation situation, pneumatic and motor-driven die spraying units can be adapted to existing hot chamber machines. The decisive factors are the tooling area, stroke, mounting arrangement, machine control system and safe release signals.

Which tasks does the die spraying system perform?

A stable spraying process creates repeatable conditions at the die. The actual effect depends on the tooling, release agent, die temperature and process parameters.

Apply release agent Targeted application supports the release of the casting. Excess release agent, however, can cause residues, moisture and unnecessary consumption.
Lubricate moving components Slides, cores and other moving tooling areas can be supplied with an adapted quantity of lubricant or release agent where required.
Remove contamination Controlled blow air can remove loose particles, droplets and residues from cavities or difficult-to-access die areas.
Cool selected die areas The spraying operation influences the thermal balance of the die. Quantity, duration and position should therefore match the die temperature-control system and casting cycle.

Refurbishment and integration into a new hot chamber cell

Depending on their condition, used die spraying systems can be cleaned, mechanically inspected, resealed and equipped with an adapted spray tool. The control system, end positions and media circuits must then be coordinated with the new machine.

Mechanical system Inspect or refurbish guides, cylinders, motors, bearings, belts, damping and mounting equipment.
Media circuits Clean tanks, pumps, hoses, valves, pressure regulators and filters and check them for leaks.
Spray tool Adapt the nozzle arrangement, valve circuits and masking to the new die.
